The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly possessing and transporting a large quantity of suspected narcotic drugs following an operation along the Tema-Ada road.
The suspect, identified as Bismark Kpormeno, was apprehended on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by officers from the Tema Highway Patrol Unit after he allegedly failed to stop when signalled by police and attempted to evade arrest.
According to a police statement issued on June 2, the suspect was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck when officers ordered him to stop. A pursuit ensued, leading to his arrest at Bondase.
Police said a search of the vehicle uncovered 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant materials suspected to be Indian hemp. The substances were reportedly concealed inside a container and wrapped with Sellotape.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected narcotics were loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported to Ada.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the truck and the seized exhibits have been impounded as evidence.
The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities and called on the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
