A female student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has been arrested following a viral incident involving a physical confrontation with a teacher on campus, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed.

The student’s arrest was announced by the Public Relations Officer of the GES, Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, shortly after authorities confirmed the arrest of the teacher involved in the incident.

“Student of Nyinahin Catholic SHS seen in viral video fighting with a teacher arrested with the teacher. Both are undergoing medical examination for any potential harm on themselves. Investigations continue,” Mr Fenyi stated.

The incident drew widespread public attention after a video circulated on social media showing a heated altercation between the student and the teacher. In the footage, the teacher is seen physically confronting the student as bystanders urge him to stop.

Witnesses can be heard reminding the teacher that the individual involved was a female student and pleading with him not to assault her. The confrontation reportedly escalated, with the teacher allegedly striking the student multiple times before throwing her to the ground.

While the circumstances that led to the altercation remain unclear, initial reports suggest a disagreement linked to hostel fees may have triggered the incident.

The Ghana Education Service says the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has launched an investigation into the matter and is expected to submit a detailed report to its headquarters.

Both the student and the teacher are currently undergoing medical examinations to determine whether they sustained any injuries during the confrontation.

The case has sparked renewed debate about student welfare, discipline and safety within schools, with many calling for a thorough investigation and appropriate action based on the outcome of the inquiry.
