The National Council of the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) has condemned the alleged assault of a female student by a teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, captured in a viral video that has been widely circulated on social media.
The incident, which reportedly involved a physical altercation between a male teacher and the student at Nyinahin Catholic SHS on Tuesday June 9, 2026, has sparked public outrage and renewed concerns about discipline and student welfare in schools.
Speaking to Atinka News, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the National PTA Council Irene Sam described the incident as shocking and disturbing, saying it has left both parents and members of the council deeply concerned.
She emphasized that discipline in schools should never take the form of violence or physical assault, regardless of the circumstances, stressing that teachers are expected to follow established codes of conduct when dealing with students.
The Deputy PRO also commended the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Police Service for their swift response to the incident, describing their actions as a step in the right direction toward ensuring accountability.
She further called on all stakeholders, including school authorities, parents, students, the GES and security agencies, to work together to identify and address the underlying causes of such incidents in schools.
According to her, a collaborative approach is needed to create a safe and conducive learning environment while preventing similar occurrences in the future.
The PTA has therefore called for a thorough investigation into the matter and urged that due process be followed to ensure justice for all parties involved.
