The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to clamp down on illegal fuel smuggling and trading activities along Ghana’s coastal areas, warning that it will not relent in efforts to safeguard the downstream petroleum sector.
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., gave the assurance during a visit to the Eastern Naval Command on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, following a recent operation that led to the arrest and destruction of eight dinghies suspected to be used for illegal fuel activities.
The visit formed part of ongoing collaboration between the NPA and maritime security agencies to curb illicit operations along Ghana’s coastline, particularly in key maritime zones around Tema.
Mr. Tameklo commended the Eastern Naval Command, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, and other maritime law enforcement agencies for their continued vigilance and coordinated efforts in tackling fuel smuggling and related crimes.
He reiterated the NPA’s readiness to deepen cooperation through intelligence sharing, joint operations, and strengthened stakeholder engagement aimed at protecting Ghana’s petroleum downstream industry.
For his part, Flag Officer Commanding of the Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi, assured that the Navy remains fully committed to supporting the NPA and other institutions to prevent illegal fuel operations along Ghana’s coastal waters.
