President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 15 individuals for ambassadorial and high commissioner roles in Ghana’s latest round of diplomatic appointments, with Parliament expected to vet and approve the list in the coming weeks.

The list reflects a strategic mix of seasoned politicians, technocrats, and public figures drawn from diverse sectors. Among the appointees are former La Dadekotopon MP Nii Amasah Namoale, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu, and two respected academics—Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, former Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technol  ogy (KNUST), and Associate Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, the first female Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast.

One name drawing particular attention is that of veteran actress and businesswoman Kalsoume Sinare, who has been nominated as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain. Known for her trailblazing influence in Ghana’s creative industry, her appointment marks a striking shift from the spotlight of film to the corridors of international diplomacy.

According to a letter from the Office of the President dated June 10, 2025, and signed by Secretary to the President Dr Callistus Mahama, the nominations follow consultations with the Council of State, in line with Article 74 of the 1992 Constitution.

While some of the nominees are returning to public service, others, like Sinare, are transitioning from influential careers in entertainment and business to the diplomatic frontlines, raising public interest in what they will bring to Ghana’s global representation.

Kalsoume Sinare is a Ghanaian actress, best known to many as the force behind unforgettable screen roles in Babina, Beyoncé, Her Excellency, Red Carpet, A Taste of Sin, and Sala. Her name echoed loudly in the ’90s after the iconic TV commercial Benjilo. Her impact, however, extends beyond cinema. She is a dynamic executive leader, a businesswoman, and a public servant.

With a career spanning almost four decades, Kalsoume Sinare has remained remarkably relevant in Ghana’s creative industry, one she helped shape and elevate from its formative years. She has featured in over 300 films and earned numerous accolades, including the Golden Actress Award in 2017. Her cinema journey began in 1993 with a breakout role in Out of Sight, Out of Love, a performance that earned her international recognition and marked the beginning of an extraordinary career in the movie industry.

Even before the spotlight of film, Sinare had already captured national and international attention. She was the first runner-up in the 1989 Miss Ghana pageant and went on to win the prestigious title of Miss Model of Africa at the Miss Model of the World competition in Taiwan in 1990.

She is also armed with a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from GIMPA, a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration, and certificates in International Cultural Diplomacy and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

She currently serves as CEO of multiple companies, including Farikals Productions, with operations spanning healthcare, construction, trade, and entertainment.

Her track record in public service is just as compelling. From her years on the Ghana Tourism Development Board to her active role within the National Democratic Congress, and her certifications in cultural diplomacy, African healthcare systems, and AfCFTA implementation, Sinare continues to engage with the issues that shape Ghana’s future.
