The Acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Kwame Kpekpena, has apologized to Ghanaians over recent power outages affecting homes and businesses nationwide.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, April 20, 2026, he acknowledged the disruption caused by the unstable electricity supply and assured the public that fixing the problem is now a top priority.
“To every Ghanaian customer who has endured inconvenient and prolonged power outages, we sincerely apologise,” he said.
The apology follows weeks of intermittent power supply in parts of the country, which has disrupted economic activities and, in some cases, damaged electrical appliances.
Mr. Kpekpena also admitted that ECG’s communication and response levels have not been adequate.
“In some instances, our communication and response times have fallen short of expectations. This is not acceptable,” he stated.
He explained that some of the challenges stem from long-standing issues, including limited investment in sections of the distribution network, leading to outages and low voltage in certain areas.
“The challenges we face are real and complex, but we have a plan, we have a schedule, and we are committing all our resources to execute it,” he added.
He further assured that ECG will continue to update the public as it works to stabilise power supply and improve service delivery.
