The government says steady progress is being made on the Accra–Kumasi Expressway project, with about 51 kilometres of the route already cleared by the Ghana Armed Forces as part of early preparatory works.
In an update shared by the Finance minister Cassiel Ato Forson on X, the ongoing works were described as a “phenomenal” demonstration of coordinated effort on one of the country’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.
The expressway project, which forms part of the broader development agenda under President John Dramani Mahama, is expected to significantly transform transport connectivity between Accra and Kumasi, two of Ghana’s major economic hubs.
According to the update, the Ghana Armed Forces are currently leading the land clearing and preparatory activities along the corridor.
The work is being carried out in phases, with emphasis on ensuring smooth execution ahead of full construction.
The statement further indicated that compensation payments to affected citizens are scheduled to begin in June. This follows assessments by relevant state agencies to determine rightful beneficiaries along the project corridor.
Authorities say the expressway is being developed as a strategic national corridor expected to enhance trade, reduce travel time, and stimulate economic activity along the route.
The update added that progress so far has been steady and deliberate, with officials expressing optimism about the long-term economic impact of the project once completed.
