The Government of Ghana has welcomed a group of Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa following recent tensions and security concerns affecting some foreign nationals in parts of the country.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, together with representatives from the Ghana Immigration Service and other state agencies, received the returnees on arrival and assured them of government support to help them reintegrate into society.

According to authorities, the evacuation exercise was carried out as part of efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of Ghanaians living abroad. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of its citizens wherever they may be.

Speaking during the reception, officials encouraged the returnees to remain calm and assured them that measures were being put in place to provide the necessary assistance, including temporary accommodation, counselling, and other forms of support where needed.
Some of the evacuees expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian government and diplomatic officials in South Africa for facilitating their safe return home.

The latest development comes amid renewed discussions on the safety and protection of African migrants and foreign nationals living in South Africa, following periodic outbreaks of tensions and attacks targeting immigrants.
Government officials say Ghana will continue to engage South African authorities through diplomatic channels to safeguard the rights and security of Ghanaians residing in the country.
