Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has called for significant changes among Match Commissioners ahead of the resumption of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Mr Okraku’s remarks come in the wake of the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during the club’s Week 19 match against Nsoatreman in Nsoatre.
The incident, which raised serious concerns over safety at match venues, led to the suspension of the Premier League.
“The clarion call from Ghanaians is that something must change, and we have to respond positively as a family,” Okraku said in an address to Match Commissioners during their training session aimed at improving matchday safety and security protocols.
He added, “We hope to bring the Premier League back soon, but this process is essential for the future of the GPL. We need to ensure that the changes our supporters are demanding are implemented.”
In the aftermath of the stabbing, Brimah has been identified as the suspect and remains on the run.
Asante Kotoko’s first team is set to resume training on Wednesday, February 19, but the club has confirmed it will not participate in any official matches until justice is served for Pooley’s death.
