The acting District Chief Executive (DCE) of Adansi North in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Thomas Kwame Okrah, was forced to leave his office on Wednesday as angry Assembly Members staged a protest against him.

The protesters accused Mr. Okrah of disrespecting them and allegedly misusing the Assembly’s resources, including DRIP machines, for personal business.

They also claimed he had altered the list of Assembly Members set to participate in the upcoming Council of State election without consultation.

Sensing the demonstrators’ anger, Mr. Okrah vacated his office before police intervened to restore order.

Despite the return to calm, the Assembly Members have formally petitioned traditional authorities, the regional minister, and other officials, calling for his immediate removal.

Presiding Member Dominic Odame Kusi outlined the reasons behind the protest.

“By law, two Assembly Members must be selected for the Council of State election. As Presiding Member, I submitted the names for endorsement and onward submission to the Regional Coordinating Council. However, I later discovered that the names had been changed without consultation,” he said.

Mr. Kusi also reiterated concerns over the alleged misuse of DRIP machines, claiming they had been deployed for unauthorized purposes.

“We checked and found names had been changed. We had to pack up the machines. We no longer want to work with him and have taken steps to ensure his transfer,” he added.

A petition has been submitted to the authorities, and the Assembly Members say they have been assured of a response soon.
