A six-member delegation of United Kingdom parliamentarians has paid a courtesy call on the leadership of Ghana’s Parliament as part of efforts to strengthen parliamentary relations and deepen cooperation between the two countries.
The delegation, led by Hon. Bellavia Janet Roberto-Addy and accompanied by two officials from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), met with the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament and parliamentary leadership to discuss issues of mutual interest, including trade cooperation, renewable energy and migration.
During the engagement, the Speaker highlighted Ghana’s commitment to international trade and regional collaboration, stressing the country’s strategic role in promoting economic integration across Africa.
He noted that the decision to host the headquarters of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Ghana reflects the country’s growing importance in advancing trade and development on the continent.
“The location of the AfCFTA headquarters in Ghana underscores the country’s strategic role in advancing trade integration across Africa,” the Speaker stated.
The discussions also touched on opportunities for enhanced cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom in areas aimed at promoting sustainable development and strengthening democratic governance.
As part of their visit, the UK delegation is expected to engage with Parliament’s Committee on Human Rights as well as the Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs.
The meetings are anticipated to deepen parliamentary dialogue and foster stronger collaboration between the two legislatures on matters of shared democratic and developmental importance.
The visit marks another milestone in the long-standing parliamentary relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
