An attempt by the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, to secure the release of his passport for travel to the United Kingdom has ended in a court order for his re-arrest.

The High Court in Accra, presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Halima El-Alawa Abdul Basit, issued the order after determining that the politician had not fully complied with the conditions attached to his bail.

Abronye DC’s lawyers had appeared before the court seeking a variation of his bail conditions to allow the temporary release of his passport.

According to the application, the outspoken NPP chairman intended to travel to the United Kingdom to pursue educational studies.

However, proceedings took an unexpected turn when the court found that he had not satisfied all the requirements imposed as part of his bail package.

Rather than granting the request, the court ordered his re-arrest pending full compliance with the bail conditions.

The ruling marks a significant setback for Abronye DC, whose legal team had hoped to convince the court to permit his travel abroad.

The passport application effectively brought the issue of his compliance with the court’s earlier directives under fresh scrutiny.

Abronye DC was previously granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, one of whom was required to be justified with landed property.

Additional conditions included the surrender of his passport and other travel documents to the court, periodic reporting to the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), and obtaining the court’s approval before travelling outside the jurisdiction.

While the court did not immediately disclose which specific bail condition remained unmet, it held that there had not been full compliance with the terms of the bail and therefore declined to grant the passport release request.

The development adds another chapter to the ongoing legal proceedings involving the Bono Regional NPP chairman, who remains one of the party’s most outspoken figures.

The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.
