Two of the six female victims who tragically lost their lives in the El-Wak Stadium stampede during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise have been identified as residents of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
The stampede occurred on November 12, 2025, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, claiming six lives — all females — and leaving five others in intensive care and 12 in critical condition at the 37 Military Hospital.
In response, President John Dramani Mahama has suspended the ongoing recruitment exercise in Accra, pending a comprehensive review of the process.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that the death toll remains at six, dismissing circulating reports that put the figure at 12. The Forces also extended condolences to the bereaved families.
One of the deceased, Priscilla Nyamalor, aged 22, was a staff member at the CBG Kasoa Branch.
Family members of the victims are devastated. The mother of the late Priscilla, Mrs. Abigail Nyamalor, in an interview with Atinka News reporter Samuel Nyamekye Jnr, recounted how her daughter had always dreamt of serving in the military.
“She told me about the enlistment and was very excited. I later received a call that she had lost her life in the stampede. It’s painful beyond words,” she said through tears.
Her father, Mr. Robert Kwame Nyamalor, also expressed deep sorrow, describing his daughter as disciplined, hardworking, and determined to serve her country.
The affected families continue to receive visits from sympathizers as investigations into the tragic incident continue.
