In a major recognition for Ghanaian swimming, Abeku Jackson has been elected Vice Chairperson of the Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission a milestone that cements his influence beyond the pool.
His election, confirmed at a recent Bureau meeting, marks the first time a Ghanaian has secured a seat on the continental athletes’ leadership.
Holyantsa Rabejaona of Madagascar will be the Commission’s secretary, and Marc Pascal Pierre Dansou of Benin will serve as its chairman.
Established to integrate athletes’ perspectives into governance, the Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission plays a pivotal role in shaping policies that advance athlete welfare, inclusion, and participation across the continent.
Through structured advocacy and collaboration, the Commission ensures that athletes have a seat at the decision-making table.
Abeku Jackson’s election underscores both his leadership credentials and his growing influence in African aquatics administration.
At the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships hosted at the Borteyman Sports Complex, Abeku Jackson led by example, claiming five medals — four of them gold — as Ghana amassed 69 medals in total.
A consistent figure in international competitions, Jackson has represented Ghana at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and at the 2023 African Games, where he clinched silver and bronze, ending Ghana’s long absence from the swimming medal table.
