The Founder of the Great African Supporters Union (GASU), Hon. Horoya, has fired back at Apirugu-Chakapama following allegations that he is fueling division among Ghana’s football supporters’ groups.
Speaking in a one-on-one interview on The Legend Sports Show on Atinka FM, Hon. Horoya dismissed the accusations as baseless and insisted that his movement is focused on promoting unity among football fans across the African continent.
“My goal is to extend the Great African Supporters Union across Africa and promote unity, not division,” he said. “I even have a representative in the Ghana Supporters Union, so I don’t understand what Apirugu’s problem really is.”
Hon. Horoya explained that his union’s mission is to strengthen ties among supporters of African teams, starting from Ghana, while empowering fans and encouraging solidarity rather than rivalry or politics.
Reacting to claims that he ignored a meeting invitation from Apirugu-Chakapama to resolve tensions, Horoya denied ever receiving such communication.
“I never got any call or message about a meeting,” he clarified. “If I had, I would have gladly shown up to clear the air.”
He also touched on the political undertones surrounding his activities, alleging that his group was sidelined during the previous NPP administration but is now being recognized under the NDC government.
“When NPP was in power, my union was not recognized. Now that NDC is in power, we have been given the chance to move forward — this is our time,” he asserted.
His comments have reignited discussions within Ghana’s football fan community about whether the Great African Supporters Union represents a new wave of unity or deepening rivalry among supporters’ groups.
As debates continue, Hon. Horoya remains resolute in his vision to push the Great African Supporters Union to continental prominence, regardless of his critics’ opinions.
