Akufo-Addo Hosts NPP Presidential Hopefuls To Bolster Party Unity

Former Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has convened a breakfast meeting with the five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging them to prioritise unity as the party gears up for its upcoming primaries.

The gathering took place on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, at Mr Akufo-Addo’s private residence in Nima, Accra. According to a statement from his office, the meeting was intended to foster camaraderie among the contenders ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for 31 January 2026.

In his opening remarks, the former president thanked the aspirants for attending despite their demanding campaign schedules, describing their presence as “a testament to your shared commitment to the collective good and prospects of our party.”

He noted that he had worked closely with each of the aspirants and held them in high regard, adding that their bids for the party’s flagbearer position were grounded in merit and service.

Mr Akufo-Addo also called for a campaign season marked by civility and substance. “My primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to ensuring that the party is fully energised and rallied to secure victory in the 2028 elections,” he said.

The five aspirants, Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, MP Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong  pledged to maintain a healthy but competitive atmosphere throughout the campaign. They also committed to supporting the eventual winner of the primaries and emphasised the importance of party cohesion beyond the internal contest.

Several senior party figures were also in attendance, including Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey; General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong; Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin; and former Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
