On Thursday, August 21, 2025, crowds of devoted fans of Ghanaian dancehall sensation Shatta Wale gathered en masse outside the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra. The demonstrators demanded his immediate release following his arrest the previous day. The scene was electrifying and emotional. Fans chanted, held up placards, and filled the EOCO forecourt with undeniable solidarity for the artist.
Shatta Wale, legally known as Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., was taken into custody on August 20 amid an investigation into alleged tax compliance violations connected to his yellow Lamborghini Urus, suspected of links to illicit financial transactions. To secure his release, EOCO initially imposed bail of GH₵10 million, to be backed by two sureties.
As tensions rose outside the office, the Ghana Police Service deployed additional barricades in a bid to manage the swelling crowd. The atmosphere was tense yet peaceful as supporters made clear their unwavering loyalty to the musician.

On the ground, Shatta Wale’s media manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah, better known as “Sammy Flex” announced that the artiste’s legal team was working diligently to meet the bail conditions. He was quick to dispel circulating misinformation, stating the probe centered solely on tax matters tied to the Lamborghini and not broader misconduct.
A video captured by fans inside the EOCO compound also showed Shatta Wale’s manager seated calmly, a stark contrast to the unrest outside.
By the evening, a breakthrough: EOCO revised the bail terms, lowering the amount to GH₵5 million with two sureties, and mandated that Shatta Wale report to the office three times weekly as the investigation continues. Soon after, the dancehall star was released, reunited with his enthusiastic supporters.
