The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 18 new cases of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox), raising the national total of infections to 346 as of August 7, 2025. Fortunately, the death toll remains unchanged at one, and there are currently no hospital admissions reported
In its latest update, the GHS reiterated that mpox spreads predominantly through close physical contact with infected individuals. Symptoms often include fever, rashes, and swollen lymph nodes. To mitigate spread, the service continues to urge the public to avoid close contact with symptomatic individuals, maintain proper hand hygiene, wear masks when caring for the sick, and report any suspected cases promptly.
This recent increase, bringing the total from 302 at the end of July, marks a slower but persistent rise in cases across the country. The GHS is working closely with regional directorates to enhance surveillance, conduct thorough contact tracing, and support timely case management.
As Ghana continues to navigate this mpox outbreak, public vigilance and responsive health infrastructure remain critical to contain further transmission.
