During this time, Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah, the Executive Director of the National Cathedral project, stated that the state had given the National Cathedral of Ghana, a company limited by guarantee, the site for the National Cathedral, along with the land deed.

Based on the site’s layout and specifications, the designs for the Cathedral, Bible Museum, Biblical Garden, and Economic Engine which includes ten revenue streams such as a 350-seater restaurant, banquet hall, conference room, and library have all been finished.

According to him, all of the land’s preparatory work has been finished, and the Cathedral and Bible Museum’s architectural and design work has also been finished. The National Cathedral’s actual construction started in 2021, with 8% of the project completed so far.

Lack of funding was a major factor in the construction’s suspension, but fundraising was also impacted by the project’s politicization and demonization.

He stated these words. According to a statement, the John Mahama administration has declared its intention to turn the National Cathedral project, which has been put on hold, into a National Cultural Convention Centre (NCCC) as part of a larger initiative to boost the creative economy.

As part of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative, SH0W24, the new Centre, which will be built in collaboration with the AfCFTA Secretariat, will host international exhibitions, film festivals, and cultural summits.

“The National Cathedral is therefore not an abandoned project. The Audit of the National Cathedral accounts by Deloitte and Touche confirms that all state funds to the project are accounted for, disbursements are based on agreements and/or contracts, and payments were made for actual work done,” Mr. Opoku said.
