The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has called on the Inspector General of Police and the Ghana Police Service to ensure the swift resolution of all pending assault cases involving journalists.

While commending the Police Service for its commitment to seeking justice in the assault case of Multimedia journalist Latif Iddrisu, GJA President Albert Dwumfour emphasized the numerous unresolved cases of attacks against journalists, particularly the tragic case of the late Ahmed Suale.

“We hope that the IGP will work diligently to bring closure to all outstanding cases. There are several incidents that require urgent attention to guarantee the safety of journalists. We have also learned that the accused in Latif’s case has been arraigned and is currently in detention,” he stated.

Speaking at a press conference at the International Press Center, Mr. Dwumfour strongly condemned the violent attack on Latif Iddrisu, which occurred while he was covering the arrest of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman at the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) on May 27.

“The Ghana Journalists Association vehemently condemns this unacceptable attack on our colleague. Such egregious acts of violence against journalists in the line of duty pose a grave threat to press freedom, democratic principles, and the fundamental right of citizens to be informed,” he declared.
