Senyo Hosi, one of the convenors of the One Ghana Movement, has urged the government to release the findings of the 2015 investigation into the June 3 disaster. Speaking to Bullet News at a wreath-laying ceremony in Accra to mark the tragedy’s tenth anniversary, Hosi questioned why the report has remained unpublished.
“Why is government sitting on the official report? Why is the report not officially released? Why don’t we have a white paper to share with the public to date? Ten years. It’s unacceptable,” he stated.
Hosi emphasized that without the report, there has been no meaningful discussion on the causes of the disaster or potential solutions. He also called for justice for survivors, urging the state to take action against individuals found culpable on the day of the tragedy.
Regarding compensation for victims, Hosi criticized the current legal battles, arguing for an out-of-court settlement. He described the process as “horrific” for survivors who are forced to relive their trauma through extensive interrogations by lawyers.
“They shouldn’t be in court reliving this horrific experience, going through various interrogations by lawyers,” he lamented.
Appealing directly to the President, Hosi stressed the need for closure and fair compensation for victims.
“It’s not worth that you have to go through the courts—that the courts will now have to process what is just moral and right to be done,” he said. “I appeal to His Excellency the President. You were president when it happened; you’re president today. Please bring closure, strive for an out-of-court settlement, and bring peace and resolution to the lives of the victims.”
