Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Minister of Transportation, has disclosed that the government is actively seeking strategic alliances to help launch a new national airline for Ghana.

Speaking to staff at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Nikpe acknowledged that the current economic climate makes it impractical for the government to pursue the establishment of a national carrier on its own. Instead, efforts are now geared toward finding credible partners who can help build a sustainable and competitive airline.

“We are looking for a partnership to establish a national airline. When it comes to partnership, it will take time. We have to know who they are — to partner with you to bring in a national carrier that will fly for a very long time,” he said.

A shortlist of potential partners is expected to be announced soon, as consultations and assessments continue.

Ghana has been without a national airline since the collapse of Ghana Airways in 2004 and Ghana International Airlines in 2010. Although various proposals to revive a national carrier have been floated over the years, none have materialized.

The Transportation Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that the new airline, once launched, will be well-positioned to compete regionally and globally, providing jobs, improving connectivity, and boosting Ghana’s aviation sector.
