The Ministry of the Interior has extended the curfew in Walewale and surrounding areas in the North East Region, effective Saturday, February 22, 2025.

The curfew will run from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

This decision follows the recommendation of the North East Regional Security Council and is enforced through an Executive Instrument.

The Ministry has called on local chiefs, elders, youth, and residents to maintain calm and show restraint amidst the ongoing security challenges in the region.

In addition to the curfew, a complete ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons has been imposed. The Ministry has warned that individuals caught violating this order will face arrest and prosecution.
