Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu reaffirmed that there were no legal violations in Mr.Botchway’s appointment.

The Government of Ghana has defended its decision to appoint Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, asserting that the appointment complies with all legal provisions.

This statement comes as the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) prepares to launch a nationwide strike on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in protest of Botchway’s continued position. CLOGSAG has argued that the appointment is politically motivated and goes against earlier assurances from the government that Botchway would be removed from office

He also indicated that the government is open to engaging with CLOGSAG in an effort to resolve the dispute.

Despite the government’s stance, CLOGSAG remains resolute in its plan to proceed with the strike, urging all members to prepare for the industrial action unless their demands are addressed.
