The Chairman of the Council of State, Edward Doe Adjaho, has reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to supporting President John Dramani Mahama in strengthening governance and national development.
His remarks came during the swearing-in ceremony of a 31-member advisory body on Tuesday, February 18, following elections held on February 11 and 17 to select some of its members.
Speaking at the event, Doe Adjaho pushed back against calls for the Council’s abolition, stressing that the newly inaugurated body would play a critical role in Ghana’s governance.
“I want to assure you on behalf of the Council of State that we will work as a team, we will support you in the governance structure in the discharge of our constitutional and statutory responsibilities,” he stated.
Acknowledging public scepticism over the Council’s relevance, Adjaho insisted the new team would be different.
“It is true that many have questioned the relevance of the Council of State, some have even called for its abolition. But we want to assure you that this Council of State will be a Council of difference. Mr President, you can count on us day and night, we shall respond,” he affirmed.
The Council of State is expected to serve as a key advisory body, offering strategic counsel to the presidency on critical national issues.
