Despite the difficult financial outlook, the government remains optimistic about its economic recovery proposals

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Kwabena Dwumfour, has strongly criticised the Mahama administration over a surge in attacks on journalists, calling the situation “unprecedented.”

Since the start of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, seven cases of journalist assaults have been recorded, raising concerns over press freedom and safety.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, February 18, Mr Dwumfour expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of accountability for those responsible.

“It is also disheartening to note that just about 50 days into the second John Mahama administration, we have witnessed seven cases of assault against journalists, and this is unprecedented,” he said.

The GJA president called on the government and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action to protect journalists and uphold press freedom.

He urged authorities to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable, warning that continued attacks on media professionals could undermine Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in the region.
