Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I has been elected as the Greater Accra Region’s representative on Ghana’s Council of State after a decisive win in the regional election on Tuesday, February 11.

The election, conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC), saw the traditional leader secure 40 votes, with his competitors failing to garner any support.

The results were announced by Greater Accra Regional EC Director, Mrs. Gladys Pinkrah, who declared, “By the power vested in me by the Electoral Commission, I declare Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I as the Greater Accra Representative of the Council of State.”

The voting process was briefly interrupted when one of the candidates, Musah Ziyad, attempted to enter the polling room with a group of individuals, leading to a confrontation with police.

The situation escalated into chaos, forcing Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo to exit hurriedly.

However, order was swiftly restored, and the election proceeded without further incident.

Originally, 13 candidates were vying for the position, but three—Obed Nyarko, Albert Borketey Naawu, and Musah Ziyad—withdrew from the race, leaving 10 contenders. A total of 58 delegates were eligible to vote in the election.

The Council of State, as established by the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, is a constitutional advisory body that provides counsel to the President on governance issues.

It includes both elected regional representatives and appointed members chosen for their expertise and experience. Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I will now represent Greater Accra on this influential body.
