Update: One Dead, Four Rescued After Two-Storey Building Collapses in Adenta

A woman has been confirmed dead following the collapse of a two-storey apartment building at Adenta Newsite in Accra during a heavy downpour on Wedsnesday evening.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in a social media post on Thursday June 4, 2026, five occupants, three adults and two children were trapped beneath the rubble after the structure collapsed near Da Yesu Ase Supermarket.

The victims were identified as Margaret Kpeli, believed to be in her late 30s; Fred Atagba; Solomon; and two children, Seyeram Dzigda and David Dzigda.

The GNFS said they received a distress call at about 6:36 p.m. and immediately dispatched rescue teams from the National Headquarters, with support from personnel from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations.

Through a coordinated search and rescue operation, four occupants  Fred Atagba, Solomon, Seyeram Dzigda and David Dzigda were successfully rescued alive from the debris. The injured victims were transported to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters also rescued a dog that had been trapped in the collapsed building.

However, after several hours of intensive rescue efforts, Margaret Kpeli was retrieved from beneath the rubble in an unconscious state. She was subsequently handed over to the Adenta District Police for preservation and further investigation.

The search and rescue mission concluded at 10:54 p.m. on Thursday.

The Fire Service commended community members who assisted in the initial rescue efforts and expressed appreciation to personnel from the National Headquarters, Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations, the Ghana Police Service, medical teams and other supporting agencies whose collaboration contributed to the operation.
