The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has upgraded and replaced transformers at its Akwatia Substation, increasing capacity from 10/13 MVA to 20/26 MVA to improve electricity supply reliability in the area.
The project is expected to enhance voltage stability, reduce power outages, and improve overall service delivery to residents and businesses in Akwatia and surrounding communities.
Speaking to the media, the Eastern Regional General Manager of ECG, Ing. Emmanuel Appoe, said the upgrade forms part of the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the national power distribution network and meet growing electricity demand.
He explained that the intervention will help ensure more stable and reliable power supply for customers in the area, adding that it aligns with ECG’s broader infrastructure improvement agenda.
The Accra Sub-Transmission Project Lead, Ing. Francis Kofi Atsyatsya, noted that the existing 10/13 MVA transformer had become overloaded, making it necessary to install a higher-capacity 20/26 MVA unit.
He indicated that the upgrade is part of a nationwide programme to enhance power distribution efficiency, with installation works expected to be completed within one week.
ECG says it remains committed to improving service delivery and ensuring a more reliable and efficient electricity supply across the country.
