The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana has announced a nationwide demonstration scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026, in response to concerns over limited recruitment opportunities for trained teachers.

In a statement issued by its National Secretariat on Thursday April 23rd,2026, the association said the protest is aimed at drawing attention to the growing backlog of teacher trainees from the 2022–2024 cohorts who have yet to be recruited.

According to TTAG, the number of available recruitment slots recently announced falls significantly short of addressing the increasing number of trained teachers awaiting employment.

The association noted that the decision to embark on the demonstration follows “extensive engagement and careful consideration” of members’ concerns, as well as what it described as an urgent need for a more inclusive and responsive teacher recruitment process.

The demonstration is expected to take place across all 49 Colleges of Education in the country, with a major convergence planned in Accra.

TTAG leadership emphasized that all necessary security arrangements have been coordinated with relevant authorities to ensure a peaceful and orderly protest.

“We expect all participants to demonstrate with a sense of urgency, discipline, and unity,” the statement said.

TTAG leaders reiterated their commitment to advocating for the welfare of teacher trainees and newly trained teachers, stressing that the demonstration is intended to push for fair and timely recruitment into the education sector.
