Morocco’s readiness to host the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to begin in less than two weeks, remains a topic of debate.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has responded by stating that it is giving the matter immediate attention and will offer clarification in the days to come.

According to reports, Morocco must struggle to meet the deadline due to a packed calendar of events and stadium renovatioahead ofore the competition on March 17.

However, CAF president Patrice Motsepe has ruled out delaying the competition, emphasising that it also serves as a qualifying event for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Brazil in 2027. Qualifying teams are in what some refer to as an unusual logistical limbo due to the prolonged uncertainty.

South Africa’s sports minister has harshly criticised Morocco for allowing suspicions to persist less than two weeks before launch, and the country has offered to host the event if necessary.

The Confederation of African Football unexpectedly decided to increase the number of teams competing in the women’s competition to 16 in November of last year.

After a thrilling 3–2 comeback victory over Morocco in the previous year’s final, the defending champions, Nigeria, won the championship.
