The Ghana Police say they have intercepted a truck carrying more than 3,000 slabs of plant material believed to be cannabis in the Greater Accra Region, following an intelligence-led operation.
The Tema Regional Police Command said in a statement Tuesday that officers stopped the vehicle in the early hours of Feb. 15 at Sege Akpla Manya. The Sinotruk tipper truck, registered GN 993-14, was loaded with fertilizer sacks but found to contain 3,009 slabs of the suspected narcotic. Police said the driver fled after abandoning the truck, which has since been impounded at the regional headquarters.
Authorities are working to identify the driver and verify ownership of the vehicle.

In a related case, police said two men ,Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35 were arrested on Feb. 16 after allegedly attempting to bribe officers at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department in Tema. The suspects reportedly offered 150,000 Ghanaian cedis (about $11,500) to secure the release of the truck and its contents. The cash has been seized as evidence.
The two men remain in custody and are expected to face court proceedings.
Police said the operation underscores their commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and maintaining integrity in law enforcement.
