Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday urged New Patriotic Party flagbearer aspirants and their supporters to put unity ahead of personal ambition as the party navigates its leadership contest.
Speaking at a peace pact signing ceremony in Accra, Akufo-Addo stressed that the party’s strength must outweigh the interests of any individual or faction.
“The NPP is bigger than any individual. No ambition or faction is greater than the elephant,” he said.
The former president warned that leadership contests should not undermine the party’s shared mission, adding that unity is not optional but a strategic requirement for electoral success.

“Unity is not an option. Unity is not a slogan. Unity is a strategic necessity for victory,” Akufo-Addo said.
He called on aspirants to ensure the pact they signed was more than symbolic, urging them to uphold it throughout the campaign. “So I charge all of you: this peace pact must not only be signed, it must be lived,” he said.
The ceremony brought together aspirants and party leaders, who reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful competition and collective progress ahead of the 2028 general elections.
