Former National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has resigned from his position to pursue a National Executive role within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement issued on Friday, June 12, 2026, Vanderpuye said his decision followed “careful reflection” and was motivated by his desire to continue serving both the party and the country in a different capacity.

“It has been a great honour and privilege to serve His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana in this role,” he stated, expressing gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to contribute to the implementation of the DRIP initiative.

Vanderpuye noted that his resignation would allow him to focus on his bid for a National Executive position within the NDC, a move he believes will enable him to contribute to strengthening the party and Ghana’s democratic institutions.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the vision of John Dramani Mahama and the success of the administration, emphasizing that he remains dedicated to the ideals of the NDC despite stepping down from his government role.

The former coordinator also expressed pride in the achievements recorded under the DRIP programme during his tenure, describing it as an initiative that has transformed local infrastructure and improved the lives of many Ghanaians.

“I leave office with immense gratitude, proud of the work we have accomplished together and optimistic about the future of DRIP,” he said.

The District Road Improvement Programme was introduced to support local governments with equipment and resources to improve road infrastructure in districts across the country.

Vanderpuye’s resignation comes as political activities within the NDC gather momentum ahead of the party’s internal elections. His decision is expected to pave the way for a formal bid for one of the party’s top national leadership positions.
