UCC Appoints Professor Denis Aheto as New Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast has appointed Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto as the institution’s new Vice-Chancellor.

This follows a special meeting of Council held on May 15, 2026, where members unanimously confirmed Professor Aheto, who currently serves as Acting Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor, as the substantive head of the university.

According to an official notice issued by the Council Secretariat on Thursday May 15,2026, Professor Aheto’s appointment takes effect from August 1, 2026, marking the beginning of his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of one of Ghana’s leading public universities.

Professor Aheto has been serving in an acting capacity while also holding the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor, where he has supported the administration in academic leadership and institutional development.

His elevation is expected to provide continuity in leadership and governance at the University of Cape Coast, which plays a key role in Ghana’s higher education system, particularly in teacher education, research, and innovation.

The appointment comes at a time when the university continues to expand its academic programmes and strengthen its research output, with stakeholders anticipating sustained progress under his leadership.
