In reaction to recent intercommunal conflicts that resulted in multiple fatalities, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has led a high-level security mission to the Savannah Region.

The National Police Headquarters team will meet with chiefs, community representatives, and opinion leaders to explore peace-restoring measures, according to the Ghana Police Service.

The visit is part of larger measures to increase security presence in Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri, and other impacted villages, according to the Police Service. IGP makes a move to Savannah Region after fatal intercommunal conflicts

“We urge all parties to remain calm and work with the security teams to ensure lasting peace in the area,” the police mentioned in a statement.

Following a land dispute, fights broke out at Gbiniyiri on Sunday, August 24, resulting in at least five fatalities and six wounded. The condition of three of the injured is reportedly critical.

Teams of reinforcements have already been sent in to stabilise the area, assisting the Ghanaian military and other security forces.
