‎The Acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Kwame Kpekpena, has apologized to Ghanaians over recent power outages affecting homes and businesses nationwide.

‎Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, April 20, 2026, he acknowledged the disruption caused by the unstable electricity supply and assured the public that fixing the problem is now a top priority.

‎“To every Ghanaian customer who has endured inconvenient and prolonged power outages, we sincerely apologise,” he said.

‎The apology follows weeks of intermittent power supply in parts of the country, which has disrupted economic activities and, in some cases, damaged electrical appliances.

‎Mr. Kpekpena also admitted that ECG’s communication and response levels have not been adequate.

‎“In some instances, our communication and response times have fallen short of expectations. This is not acceptable,” he stated.

‎He explained that some of the challenges stem from long-standing issues, including limited investment in sections of the distribution network, leading to outages and low voltage in certain areas.

‎“The challenges we face are real and complex, but we have a plan, we have a schedule, and we are committing all our resources to execute it,” he added.

‎He further assured that ECG will continue to update the public as it works to stabilise power supply and improve service delivery.
