A fire outbreak at Tolon Senior High School in the Northern Region has displaced 346 students after the girls’ dormitory was destroyed.
The fire, which began at about 7:20 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, gutted five top-floor dormitories.
Three of the destroyed dormitories are from Gbewaa House, with one each from Furgurson and Tolon-Naa Houses.
The incident worsened existing overcrowding challenges, displacing hundreds of students. The Ghana National Fire Service later contained the fire.
Investigations are ongoing to determine both the origin of the fire and the extent of damage caused.
Coming shortly after a similar blaze at NOBISCO, which displaced 900 students, the incident has reignited concerns about fire safety in schools, with calls for the GES to implement preventive measures.
