The Chief of Akyem Muoso, Osabarima Dr. Owusu Beyeeman, has strongly criticized Ghana’s political approach to fighting corruption, saying it has consistently failed and cannot lead the country out of the corruption crisis. According to him, from the era of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah through the military regimes to the Fourth Republic, politicians have manipulated the public conscience under the guise of fighting corruption, without showing genuine commitment to tackling the problem. Osabarima Dr. Beyeeman lamented the long-standing trend where individuals are praised as heroes when in power but branded as corrupt the moment they leave office. He said this cycle of regime change and politically motivated corruption exposés has become entrenched in Ghanaian politics, even before the Fourth Republic. Speaking at the maiden Yensom Festival of the chiefs and people of Akyem Muoso, the chief stressed that state anti-corruption institutions and investigative bodies must work independently and effectively, without fear or favour. He emphasized that if a government official engages in corrupt practices while in office, institutions mandated to investigate and prosecute such offenses must be seen actively taking action, regardless of the official’s political affiliation.
