Ghana Blackstars head coach Carlos Queiroz has praised the determination, discipline and sacrifice of his players after the Black Stars secured a hard-fought victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the win as a reward for a well-executed tactical plan.
Speaking after the match, Queiroz revealed that Ghana expected to spend long periods without the ball against a technically gifted opponent and prepared his players to endure difficult moments before striking at the right time.
“First we had to suffer, we battled like warriors. We won the game with the brains,” the Ghana coach said.
According to Queiroz, the Black Stars entered the game with a clear strategy that required patience and resilience. He explained that the first half was always going to be challenging as Ghana’s opponents were known for their ability to dominate possession and control matches.
“First half was to suffer against a great team. They know how to play, they know how to do things. We knew that they would control the game, but step-by-step this was our strategy to let them come and start to make the control until we scored because this is the way to win,” he stated.
The veteran coach credited his players for sticking to the game plan despite the pressure, noting that their tactical discipline ultimately made the difference. Ghana’s ability to absorb attacks and capitalize on opportunities reflected the team’s growing confidence and understanding of his philosophy.
Queiroz also highlighted the sacrifices required to succeed on football’s biggest stage, insisting that World Cup victories do not come easily.
“We have to sacrifice. The win in this World Cup is very expensive, but the boys are ready to pay the price,” he said.
His comments underline the commitment and determination within the Black Stars camp as Ghana seeks to make a deep run in the tournament. The victory provides a significant boost to the team’s campaign and strengthens belief among supporters that the four-time African champions can compete with the world’s best.
With momentum now on their side, the Black Stars will turn their attention to their next assignment, hoping to build on a performance that showcased both resilience and tactical maturity under Queiroz’s leadership.
