The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully prevented a newly constructed court building in Asankrangwa in the Western Region from being destroyed by fire following a swift emergency response.
According to the GNFS in a statement on social media post on Thursday June 18, 206, personnel from the Asankrangwa Fire Station responded promptly to a distress call on June 16, 2026, and arrived at the scene within minutes.
Upon arrival, firefighters found parts of the newly completed court facility engulfed in flames.
The firefighting team quickly deployed dry chemical powder extinguishers to contain the blaze and succeeded in bringing the fire under control shortly after reaching the scene.
Their rapid intervention prevented the flames from spreading to other sections of the building, averting what could have been extensive structural damage.
The fire destroyed an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) meter and a three-phase breaker, while some electrical service cables were also partially damaged. Despite the losses, the building itself was saved from major destruction.
The GNFS noted that the timely response not only protected the court facility but also prevented significant financial losses that could have resulted from the incident.
No injuries or fatalities were recorded.
Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
The incident highlights the critical role of the Ghana National Fire Service in safeguarding lives and property through rapid emergency response and effective firefighting operations.
