Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno on Saturday toured several polling centers in Accra as the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) held its presidential primary to select a flagbearer.

Mr. Yohuno began his rounds in the Klottey Korle Constituency, stopping at the YMCA polling center to observe voting and assess security arrangements. His visit underscored the Ghana Police Service’s role as the sole security agency for the primaries, a decision made by the NPP to ensure calm and credibility in the process.

Speaking to the media at the YMCA center in the Korle Klottey Constituency, Mr. Yohuno appealed to the government to provide the police with more barricades to bolster election security nationwide. “When you have barricades, it makes the provision of security very easy,” he said. “This is another way we have to go through to make sure that the government will continue to procure more barricades to protect people and also controlling crowd very easily.”

The police chief emphasized that improved barricading was critical for crowd control and maintaining order at polling stations. He expressed satisfaction with the security measures already in place and urged delegates to cooperate with officers to guarantee a peaceful and orderly election
