The government has begun the process of appointing a new Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission (EC) following the retirement of Samuel Tettey, who served as the Commission’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Services.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, June 15, Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed that constitutional procedures are already underway to fill the vacancy.
According to the Minister, a nominee has been forwarded to the Council of State for consideration, marking a key step in the appointment process.
“Samuel Tettey has retired from his position at the Electoral Commission, and the necessary steps are being taken to appoint his successor. A name has been submitted to the Council of State, which is currently reviewing the nomination,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated.
The appointment of a new Deputy Commissioner is expected to follow the constitutional requirements governing appointments to the Electoral Commission, with further announcements anticipated once the Council of State concludes its deliberations.
Mr. Tettey’s departure brings an end to his tenure at the EC, where he played a significant role in overseeing the Commission’s corporate and administrative functions.
