The government has committed GH¢76.4 million to support the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, underscoring its determination to ensure the national team is fully prepared for football’s biggest stage.
The funding, approved through the Ministry of Finance, covers both the team’s World Cup preparations and the settlement of outstanding bonuses earned during Ghana’s qualification campaign.
A major portion of the package — GH¢58.9 million (US$5 million) — has been allocated to finance the team’s training programme, logistics, travel arrangements, accommodation, and other operational expenses ahead of and during the tournament’s group stage.
In addition, GH¢17.5 million (US$1.488 million) will be used to clear outstanding bonuses owed to players and the technical team.
The payments stem from a performance-based agreement reached during the qualifiers, with part of the bonuses already paid and the remaining balance due upon qualification.
Government officials say the investment is necessary to provide the Black Stars with the resources required to compete effectively against the world’s best teams and to maintain a positive atmosphere within the squad.
The announcement comes as expectations continue to build ahead of the World Cup, with supporters hoping the Black Stars can deliver a strong performance and improve on previous tournament outings.
Authorities have called on Ghanaians to unite behind the national team as preparations intensify for the global football showpiece.
