President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a new Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), charging its members to provide frank, independent, and evidence-based counsel as Ghana pursues economic recovery.
Speaking at the ceremony on Wednesday, February 11, Mr. Mahama underscored the importance of objective, data-driven policy guidance. He directed the group to propose adjustments where necessary and to offer expert input into Ghana’s negotiations with bilateral and multilateral partners, international financial institutions, and investors.
“Your counsel is expected to be frank, independent and evidence-based,” the president said. “Sound economic management depends on honest assessments and strategic foresight.”
The advisory group will report directly to the president, submitting memoranda, briefs, and strategic reviews as required. Mr. Mahama emphasized that their work must be anchored in the long-term national interest.
Strengthening Economic Governance
The creation of PAGE is intended to bolster economic governance by providing high-level advisory support to the presidency on fiscal and structural reforms. The president said the group’s role is to ensure that policy decisions are informed by rigorous analysis rather than political expediency.
