Private legal practitioner Inusah Abdulai Fuseini has reaffirmed concerns that Ghana forfeits approximately US$3 billion annually to corruption and called for the conviction of public officials found to be complicit.
He made the remarks during an X Space session organised by the Office of the Special Prosecutor on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Mr. Fuseini referenced GACC President Beauty Narteh, who disclosed that corruption drains twice the value of Ghana’s annual FDI inflows of US$1.5 billion, thereby constraining the country’s development efforts.
Reinforcing his argument, Lawyer Fuseini said the culture of impunity will persist so long as high-profile individuals are not convicted promptly, creating the impression that corruption carries little to no risk.
“Until high-profile people are convicted of corruption expeditiously, people will keep dreaming and thinking that they can get away with corruption,” he stated.
He further pointed out that past governments contributed to a worrying acceptance of corrupt practices.
“In the last administration, there was a certain level of normalisation of corruption,” he added.
Mr. Fuseini’s remarks reinforce long-standing calls by civil society for stronger anti-corruption measures, heightened transparency, and a legal system capable of delivering timely justice.
