Former Blackstars captain, Asamoah Gyan has called on Ghanaians at home and in the diaspora to rally behind the national team, the Black Stars, as they prepare for the FIFA World Cup.
In a strongly worded message shared on social media on Tuesday June 16, 2026, Gyan congratulated the 26 players selected for the tournament, describing them as “warriors” and urging the country to unite behind them regardless of past differences.
“The Black Stars are our brand. Our pride. Our only product,” he wrote. “To the 26 warriors named for the World Cup: congratulations. The nation believes in you. I believe in you.”
He further appealed for unity among Ghanaians, stressing that football remains a powerful force for national cohesion.
“To Ghana and all Ghanaians in the diaspora: let’s put our differences behind us. Football is the greatest game that unites us. Let’s come together once again and give ultimate support to the Black Stars,” he added.
Gyan also highlighted the importance of the World Cup as an opportunity to promote Ghana’s image globally, urging stakeholders to make the most of the moment.
“We have another opportunity to market the Ghana brand through the World Cup. Let’s do it again,” he said.
He went on to acknowledge President John Dramani Mahama, the Sports Minister Kofi Adams, and the Ghana Football Association for their roles in supporting the national team’s journey to the tournament.
Among those mentioned was the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, along with the broader football fraternity, media, and fans.
Gyan concluded with a rallying call for unity and belief, saying: “Win, lose, or draw… we’ll all be smiling together if we stand as one. Go make us proud, boys. Ghana is behind you.”
The post has since sparked engagement online as supporters echo calls for national unity ahead of the global tournament.
