The Attorney-General has officially dropped all charges against Dr. Ernest Thompson, former Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), and three other individuals involved in a high-profile case concerning alleged financial misconduct.

Court filings from the High Court (Criminal Division) in Accra confirm that the state has discontinued the case against Dr. Thompson, John Hagan Mensah, and Peter Hayibor. The decision was formalized in a notice signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, who cited provisions of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960, as the legal basis for the withdrawal.

This marks the conclusion of the long-standing case, which had been initiated under the previous administration, aiming to hold the accused accountable for financial losses allegedly incurred by the state. With the charges now formally withdrawn, Dr. Thompson and the other accused individuals have been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Their legal teams, including Samuel Codjoe, Anis Moghtar Mohayideen, and D.K. Ameley, have been officially notified of the Attorney-General’s decision, bringing an end to the protracted legal proceedings.
