Communications Team Member of The New Force, Papa Kwabena Ahinkan Asante, has taken a swipe at Ghana’s two dominant political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for what he describes as a flawed mindset of governance.

Speaking on Bullet TV Ghana’s Morning Target Show, Asante argued that both parties often portray themselves as doing Ghanaians a favor whenever they provide basic infrastructure or development projects.

“Whenever they are voted into power, they behave as though they are doing Ghanaians a favor,” he said. “If an MP constructs a 400-meter road, they make so much noise just for the world to know they have done something. But is that not why you were voted into Parliament? Is that not why you were appointed as a minister?”

Asante insisted that public service should not be treated as an avenue for praise-seeking but rather as a mandate of responsibility. He criticized the culture of excessive celebration of routine projects, stressing that political leaders must go beyond the ordinary to introduce innovative policies and sustainable development initiatives.

“Whatever you do should not be treated as something extraordinary that requires applause. No. We are joking as a country, and we really need to sit up,” he added.

The comments reflect a growing public sentiment that Ghana’s politics has become transactional and performative, with parties emphasizing token achievements rather than long-term, systemic solutions to the nation’s pressing challenges.
