Mr.Sory concluded by urging the OSP to adhere to due process, collaborate with Ofori-Atta’s legal team, and proceed with prosecution if the evidence warrants it. “If you have the case, take it to court."

Private legal practitioner, Thaddeus Sory has sharply criticized Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, for his handling of the investigation into former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, accusing him of wasting time on public theatrics rather than pursuing legal action.

Mr. Sory’s comments come in the wake of a February 11, 2025, raid on Ofori-Atta’s residence, allegedly carried out by state security forces.

The following day, Mr Agyebeng held a press conference denying any involvement in the raid but proceeded to declare Ofori-Atta a fugitive, despite his legal team informing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that the former minister was on medical leave in the U.S.

In a Facebook post, Mr Sory condemned Mr Agyebeng’s approach, emphasizing that Ghana’s legal framework permits trials in absentia and questioning the need for public declarations. “If you have sufficient evidence to prosecute, proceed with the case,” Sory wrote.

“There’s no need for grandstanding and unnecessary announcements. You’ve wasted public resources and time on theatrics.”

Mr Sory further criticised Mr Agyebeng for holding a press conference rather than taking legal action.

He urged the Special Prosecutor to focus on executing search and arrest warrants if Mr. Ofori-Atta was truly a target, rather than seeking attention through media updates. “You’ve told the world you’re looking for him. Why not simply find him? That is your job,” Sory added.

The lawyer also mocked Mr Agyebeng’s apology, suggesting it was unnecessary given the OSP’s prior denial of responsibility for the raid. “Why apologize when you weren’t responsible for the raid?” he asked. “Was this a fear-driven move, or an attempt to build rapport with the Minister while pretending to pursue him?”
